Deep dive: Integration

Calculus is really important in our lives, though most of us don’t realise it! Integration is a major part of calculus, helping to make sense of the world by describing how things accumulate and grow. This course guides you towards a deeper understanding of what integration is actually about, leading to the fundamental theorem of calculus. You’ll recap the key techniques you have already learned, particularly the integration of standard functions, to make sure that you can use and apply them with confidence. You’ll also learn more advanced integration techniques, such as integration by parts. The skills taught here are normally part of the second year of an A Level Maths course, and they'll be especially useful if you’re thinking about going on to a degree that involves Maths, such as Engineering or Economics.

This course focuses on consolidating essential Maths skills through playing a set of online games. You’ll consolidate your skills in simplifying expressions and solving equations in a Connect 4 game, and you’ll become proficient in graphing and interpreting linear equations using dynamic graphing. You'll be solving problems in context by playing games like Battleships and Bingo, and you'll also learn how to write a formula for a sequence. Supported by your tutor, these games are a great way to help you build your confidence in algebra, and prepare you for when you start your GCSE.

Through a range of activities, you'll learn what to look for in a text to be able to analyse it effectively, as well as revise and extend your knowledge of language and structural techniques.
